Willy Shmyr Makes History as Northumberland Stars' All-Time Leading Scorer

Courtice native reaches historic milestone, cementing his place among the franchise's greatest players.

COLBORNE, ON — A new name sits atop the Northumberland Stars' all-time scoring leaderboard, as forward William Shmyr has officially etched his name into franchise history.

The 19-year-old Courtice, Ontario native has reached 146 career points, recording 49 goals and 97 assists in 137 games with the Stars, moving into the top position on the franchise's all-time points leaderboard.

Shmyr now holds the franchise's highest point total passing former Stars defenceman Bo Stevenson, who recorded 144 points in 148 games. Shmyr holds the top ranking with his impressive production in fewer games.

Since joining Northumberland for the 2023–24 season, Shmyr has developed into one of the organization's most productive offensive players. His combination of scoring ability, playmaking and consistency has helped him reach a milestone that few players in the team's history have approached.

A left-handed shooting forward standing six feet tall, Shmyr has averaged more than a point per game throughout his Stars career, demonstrating his ability to contribute offensively.

His 95 career assists also place him second on the franchise's all-time assists leaderboard, further highlighting his impact as a playmaker.

A Milestone in a Historic Era

Shmyr's individual accomplishment comes during an exciting period for the Northumberland Stars organization.

The Stars captured their first-ever Russell Cup championship in 2026, defeating the Wasaga River Dragons in five games to complete a historic postseason run.

Now, with Shmyr reaching the top of the franchise's scoring leaderboard, another significant chapter has been added to the organization's history.

For a franchise that has continued to grow and establish itself within junior hockey, Shmyr's achievement represents both individual excellence and the lasting impact a dedicated player can make over multiple seasons.

GM Alex McConnell had very positive reviews when reflecting on Shmyr’s Stars career up to this point- “When I came on board with the Stars, the first goal was to change the culture and build around young players who wanted to become better players; Willy was one of the first players I signed when trying to accomplish this. You look back now; 3 years later and he’s off to a great start in his 4th season. He’s helped us secure a championship, he’s hungry to help push this group for more and now sits atop the franchise scoring list. I couldn’t be happier for him, he’s a great player and an even better teammate; a big reason Northumberland is what we are today.”

Leaving His Mark on the Stars

Reaching the top of an all-time scoring leaderboard requires more than a single standout season. It demands sustained production, commitment and the ability to contribute year after year.

Shmyr's journey from his first season with Northumberland to becoming the franchise's top-ranked scorer reflects that consistency.

With 146 points already to his name, Shmyr has established himself among the most accomplished offensive players ever to wear a Northumberland Stars jersey.

For William Shmyr, the milestone is more than a number. It is a place in Northumberland Stars history.
